Just Get to the Next Best Position!

In fighting, everybody tends to have their ideal thoughts on how a fight should go. But it doesn’t usually go ideally, and a lot of times you will even find yourself in the exact opposite position.
Picture two fighters. The one wants to stay standing, but all of a sudden the other fighter takes him to the ground. To tell him he needs to get back up is way too much for him to think about right now. The advice I would give him is to first make sure he gets to guard position. Then I would tell him to work for a sweep so he can get in top position. From there he can work to stand up.
I feel like a lot of people right now, in life, have a place where they would love to be ideally, but it just seems impossible from the position they are in. My advice is this, don’t worry about winning the whole fight right now. Just get to the next best position.
I have been in transition for the last few months. Our ideal position would be for my wife and I to be able to be living in Omaha, doing full-time ministry as a job to train up worshipers and leaders, be prayer intercessors, and evangelists. That’s a lot. But man, from where we are right now, it looks nearly impossible.
So I slowed myself down. We have been living in Lincoln (about 40 minutes away) and I need a job that can support the family. So that was our prayer request, finding a job in Omaha and being able to move back to Omaha. That’s our next best position. So I now have a job. And we can start looking into moving back to Omaha.
If things are looking tough right now, my encouragement and advice is to decide what is your next best position and get there. It will help you start building momentum of success and help your mentality to shift from worrier to warrior, from sitting in despair to getting things done. You are more than a conqueror in Christ. Get to that next best position.
