Do It Again!

So many people want to do fighting. Every week more and more people sign up for the local fights and get in the cage. It's awesome, but you can clearly tell when there is a difference in skill level. And one of the biggest factors in this difference comes down to the willingness to drill.
You walk into a gym filled with guys wrestling and sparring. As you gaze across the room some guys are moving with a ton of thought, each set of movements has slight pauses in between. But your eye is caught by the guys that you see making clean, smooth, strong movements. They flow from transition to transition.
That's the difference. The willingness to drill over and over making movements hundreds of times to perfection allows a fighter to flow smoother, make stronger movements, and use less energy to do so in an instant without thinking. Through muscle conditioning the body simply recognizes a certain position and pressure and reacts.
Even though this is important, many people walk through the doors of gyms and don't want to drill but only wrestle and spar. But there are a few huge benefits to drilling:
1. It allows you to snap into an effective technique much quicker with correct motion.
2. It gets you used to hearing your coach's voice so that in the middle of a fight it is the only voice you hear in a the middle of a crowd.
3. It builds your confidence in the effectiveness of that technique.
This is also something that seems to be an issue for many people in their walk with God. We have to come back to a place that sees spiritual practices like prayer, scripture reading, meditation, fasting, and fellowship as a gift. They are the place where it is possible to practice life before having to step into the situations in life.
Many who have been known for their great spiritual exploits, such as Smith Wigglesworth, were known to spend hours in prayer every day before most people were getting out of bed. Some whose names are associated with the healing gifts claim they spend hours a day just imagining healings happen. These are drills that allow them to walk into life, see someone with an issue and immediately react correctly in love.
So many say they want to do great things for God. But when they are given situations and opportunities, they are caught thinking because they didn't want to put time in drilling when they had the chance.
As life happens, do you want to be the guy that stops and thinks about his next move? Or would you rather be the guy who just reacts correctly because you have been in this situation many times before? A fight is never easy, but for it to be easier....Do your drills. Do them every day. And when you feel you are getting sick of them....Do them again!
